'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from outside the box, and his teammate quickly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with fans congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an incredible comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 during the second half. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a fourth-round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right wing-back after they changed shape. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the opposition who praised the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to dictate and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he linked up again with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that growth for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, his father, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

His only game for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I felt I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
